The WiRO seeks to promote measures that serve to develop and improve the economic structure in the Ostwuerttemberg region, especially through supporting activities that promote enterprises in the region; planning and executing site promotion for the region; creating the necessary data pool to facilitate supraregional acquisition of enterprises, supporting enterprises that are located in the region by creating additional jobs and securing those that already exist, developing and promoting initiatives that facilitate the enhancement of soft location factors.
The realization of these tasks occurs in close coordination with municipal promoters of economic development and the regional enterprise associations. The WiRO bands together various regional economic development activities. It also acts as a contact partner and as a coordinator for state institutions with regard to economic-development and place-marketing activities.
The tangible measures and projects are designed with business demands in mind and are continually adapted to structural changes and economic situations. From the outset, there has been an emphasis on site development through the construction of networks and the strengthening of areas of expertise pertaining to the economic situation. Relatedly, there are surplus values for locally based enterprises, entrepreneurs and incentives for new enterprises, just as there are for municipalities that profit in such a way from economic development services.
